Major Audie Murphy, An interesting side note on that speech is he was very reluctant to attend the meeting because he had just lost his wife a week or so prior and he was in mourning. However at the urging of others he did attend and he spoke extemporaneously, unprepared and without notes. He was the equivalent of a "rock star" of his era. Whenever he spoke people hung on his every word.
