I wonder what happened to the goldsmith!

Eureka meaning "I have found it", i.e found the solution to the problem.

Bamse, you're right that it's about the volume of water displaced but it is also about the density of the object being tested. Gold is more dense than silver, so has a lower volume for the same weight. If an object which is said to be gold weighs 100g then you might expect it to displace 50mls, whereas silver might displace 75mls (examples only).

had anyone confirmed that the 1st words he yelled was eureka? If it was confirmed then I'm thinking Archimedes may have had a stalker?

Bamse, higher density means the same amount takes less space. think of a snowball. light sticky snow. it's a baseball size. but if it's squeezed down to a smaller size, it's very hard. denser, but same volume of snow.

Player #92723922, who said anything about a towel? that's the Puritanism that still affects our society. (that and colder climate) Remember, they thought of the human body as beautiful, not just sexually like now.

Oh, now I have to get rid of the mental image of a crazy Greek running through the streets, bath towel flapping . . .

How can the density make the difference of water displacement!? The volume does it!
