What is the speed of sound (20 degrees Celsius in dry air)?
Correct answer: 768 mph (1,236 kmh)
Phytime
Please add the speed in meters per second, most countries dont use imperial units.

Yeah , I’ve noticed that the rest of the world doesn’t have fast sound .
I think it plods along at about 12 miles per hour here
Jo
I don't even understand the question lol
Apai
Liz , most of America does, only the USA doesn't...

Nessie, rubbish especially concerning water always always in nautical miles
Liz
I truly appreciate a detailed answer!! Thank you, but I do agree with Phytime. Meters should be included to cover all counties. Sadly, in America, we do not use the measurement of meters more often.
wesley
I knew the velocity in air but did not know how much faster it traveled in other media. always something new to learn.
wesley
Phytime, someone must have edited it, because they now have metric measurements.
bribiepete
AlixAustralia, metric was added to this answer at a later time thanks to all the requests 🙂

Qatwalk, You Americans must have as Motto:. Why do Things the easy way when there is a Harder and more difficult way of doing them.
Qatwalk
Timbo, I am American, and I would love if the USA would change to metric. It is difficult to mentally multiply by 12, or 16, or 5280. Geez.
Timbo
how about we put scientific fact in metric? Freedom units have to go the way of the dinosaur already.

Gary-Melb Aust, not any more x

Phytime, add both measures as some of us do not use metres either

ridiculous not having the answers in metric system.
Blendi
Km/h please..!

CappuccioO, I don't know how others than Americans can answer many of these questions . So many about American trivia. Bravo!
CappuccioO
I'd appreciate having the speed in km/h to.
richbaumel
3302.4 MILES!!! per hour to break the sound barrier in water, I wonder if there's a sonic boom?

Player #5637854, I just reading like you. you've got a good point though.
micron9999
I was under the impression that barometric pressure was a factor too. How fast do you think sound travels at a specific temp and humidity if there is hardly any air, such as if comparing 25000 ft (7620 m) to sea level?
Birdiemom
MALICE, you must have the fastest thumbs in the world to do that before time's up!
