In which year was "Stanford Prison Experiment" conducted?
Correct answer: 1971

Whistling Jake
This was a psychological experiment. None of the participants committed any crimes and none of them actually went to prison. They created a prison like setting and randomly assigned some participants as prison guards and the rest as prisoners.
What they found out was that those given the power of guards relished the power and quickly escalated violent behaviour because they could get away with it.
The ones assigned as prisoners likewise took on their roles very seriously and either shrank into themselves and became very submissive or very violent themselves.
All in all, the study showed that people easily take on a role of what they think is expected of them even when it may be contrary to how they might otherwise behave.

Why didn't they just talk to real prisioners and guards? Sometimes you gotta wonder.

Ewa
Don't want to be in prison? DON'T BREAK THE LAW.

M'lady
Ewa, on the whole I agree . But what about those imprisoned wrongly ? Not to mention the pple in the experiment weren't criminals 🙂

unfortunately many people break the law that aren't in prison.

Ewa, I agree! if you don't want to do time, don't commit the crime. Too many people don't take responsibility for their actions and respect is a forgotten word in the good old USA. The Israelis have the right idea. At age 18 serve at least 2 years in the army and no exceptions. Those not fit for combat can do desk jobs. Today's youth doesn't get the right kind of discipline. It's very sad

Ewa, if only that were true. Sanctum Simplicitas.

Thor
This was a complete failure on all levels. Especially the campus board who had no idea it was happening. The professor should have stopped it as soon has brutality reared it's ugly head.

Bons
the experiment was about human behavior and power. it had nothing to do with crime and punishment. it

Ewa, I agree. If you don't want to do time, don't do the crime. Too many people are allowed to take responsibility for their actions in the USA. I think the Israelis have the right idea: at age 18, 2 years in the army with no exemptions. Those not fit for combat can do desk jobs. There's not enough of the right kind of discipline these days

This experiment is a disturbing comment on the human psyche.

The 4th question in this level needs to be properly worded! What it states is nonsensical!

Whistling Jake, Thank you for filling in all the blanks! I had a ton of questions after reading the info the game provided, and you answered each of them -- and quite succinctly. If you're up to it, I would love to know how you know about the experiment. Regardless, thanks again.

Charlie
Many experiments were conducted after World War II, examining conformity and “I was only following orders.“. The Milgrim Experiment was another. A decent film was made about the Stanford experiment call, interestingly enough, “Das Experiment” with Moritz Bliebtreu (Run, Lola, Run)

p
waste of time 🤔

Whistling Jake, we don’t know if they were randomly assigned…

CyanJaguar62
Falcon, they have made exceptions for those who are Orthodox Jews. I think they are trying to change that.

Ewa, laws are made every minute just for that, to be broken! Like the risk of getting away with it, the opposite came unexpected and undesired, in most cases, per se.
