I always loved Edith Bunker's reply when her daughter Gloria asked her if she was in favor of capital punishment. she said "Yeah.... so long as it isn't too severe."

source page not found but "died for nothing" should be qualified: Wikipedia's info on her is far from exculpatory.

Tiffany, Lincoln's mother had no knowledge of this. She died in 1818.

This is why the appeals process can take so long on U.S. death penalties. The opportunity to correct mistakes can take some time.

Capital punishment is irreversible and SO MANY eye witnesses have testified out of bias or fear. Many Black men have been convicted and executed for crimes they could not have possibly committed because of witness accounts. And judicial, e.g., bias is no exception. When the evidence, or the witness, is questionable, the death sentence should not be imposed. When it is and the accused is innocent, capital punishment is murder.

George, The police officer, assigned to guard Lincoln, was in a bar across the street during the play according to the TV show about the history of the Secret Service. It was 50 yrs after Lincoln and others were assassinated before Congress began sporadically budgeting for Presidential protection. Another 50 years, after JFKs assassination, before serious protection was provided. Sad.

Lincoln really needed a body guard especially that night he got shot at Ford's theater. Southerners would occasionally take shots at him, sometimes putting a bullet hole in his tall hat!

Player #15305026, Probably far from being as partisan as it is today. While Mary's part may have been minor in the grand scheme of things, law enforcement sought to make examples out of ANYONE involved, be it male or female. Eyewitness accounts say that while she may have weeped, she was far more gallant than a couple of her male counterparts.
