I've lived in Florida since I was 4. 50 years.. We went driving and parking in Orange groves when we were teens, and you could get paid to pick oranges..but there was more partying than orange picking going on. 😁

back in the 70's and 80's there were tons of commercials for Florida orange juice and growers. but in all the 40+ years i spent in northern California, we never heard much about Cali oranges until the 90's!

In the 60s we had a little orange shaped oj stand in Eau Gallie and I loved getting juice on a hot day. I think the original building got old but the newer one looks pretty much the same.

Melode, I think California Oranges are better too! My dad took me to pick Oranges too. Hard work; as a kid it was hard to get up early. Then the trees had spiders. At times it was cold and foggy. My dad would have me pick the bottom Oranges. Oh a lot of you are saying this is cruel and usual but the times were different and we were Latinos on the lower end of middle class. Latter in life picking Oranges/ the Orange industry was not his main thing. I am not complaining; and I live near Orange groves and as it has been written: nothing better than in the Spring morning smelling Oranges and by the way the leaves make a good stress relieving tea. I just pray the Orange Industry will never go away.

wesley, I wonder what makes a great Orange, is it the weather (good irrigation); the dirt, climate? My dad in Southern California picked Oranges at nine years old, in his teens he unloaded box crates; the packing house; had refrigerator train cars by it. My dad had go and stack boxes in them. My dad presently is 92 years old; one thing is he never catches colds nor flu. He liked eating Oranges like there was no tomorrow.

I have two orange trees in my backyard in Phoenix, one is called and Arizona sweet, the other is a navel orange. both are very sweet and juicy.

actually I think California oranges are sweeter. I love of in the morning. it just picks you up and gives you energy. I also like grapefruit jc. even though I'm not supposed to have it.

I now live in California and Florida oranges are still the best. When I lived in Philly I always got a special treat at Christmas..a Florida tangerine that filled the toe of my stocking. Memories that the kids of this generation will miss.

OMG! Florida IS the orange JUICE state because the weather and soil produce juicier fruit. Hands down, California produces the very best EATING oranges. The BEST Florida juice comes from oranges grown near the Indian River on the east coast. (I’m the 4th generation of my 6 generation Florida family.)
