I remember seeing it in person about 30-something years ago. I still remember that it erupted for 13:45. It truly was an amazing sight.

Ch4m3130n72, I was there in 1987 when I was 12 and it was one of the only times it didn’t erupt due to major rain. Was still awesome to be there and still remember it!

MBubbles71683, hey. There is a book called "Death In Yellowstone", written by Lee Whittlesey. He was the park historian for a time (cool guy). It is a little dated now, as it was written in '90's. But most of the stories are older anyway. It does have a geothermal chapter. Although, you aren't allowed to get too close to the geysers - the ground is too brittle to stand on, so there are boardwalks. Not that everyone abides.

Joseph , as bad as it sounds, it's true. Her mound of magma has been growing larger, ( by 3-4 mm's a year, if I remember correctly), since scientists started keeping track of it. she's a super caldera of massive proportion.

I recently watched a historical episode on the History Channel about Old Faithful soon to be not as faithful as it usually is. Apparently, something is changing and they say that, something, is not good.
