People who are an expert in one tiny field may believe they have a grasp of other, related subjects. There is an excellent book about Nobel winning scientists who swayed both the public and public policy by their strong beliefs in bad science that was outside their field. Wish i could remember the title.

It is best shown with a graph. People with low marks on an exam estimated, before, a much higher result. People who got high marks were much closer to their real result. Also, people who only know a little "don't know what they don't know".
