When she was exhumed the first time, she was clothed in a new habit. But before that happened (clothed in a new habit) the sisters who were given this task, bathed her with lye soap which caused her skin to take on a darker hue. Why would anyone bathe a dead person with lye soap? St Bernadette wasn't in need of a bath. This has happened to other incorrupt persons in other countries (Italy comes to mind). Incredible ignorance!

Player #131939, they called it that, but it meant "tumor" basically. doctors had no understanding of disease pathology, only of the symptoms as each presents. for this reason, tuberculosis itself was commonly referred to as "consumption," because of the bloody cough late in the disease progression.
