I'm born and raised New Yorker and proud of it

For me, New York was everything I'd hoped it would be. Yes, it was very crowed and the people weren't especially friendly, but I got to see things and go to places I'd only read about or seen in movies!

NerdyKeymaster51762, I’ve lived here my whole life, as well. I don’t mind the winter, it’s the taxes that are insane. Ugh

KILLean17, Newark, Jersey City, and a few other places in Jersey have their share of bad news too. I am born and raised in New York, served as an EMT and cop here and I'm a 9/11 first responder. I wouldn't trade NYC for any city in the world.

it IS a one-of-kind place!
Unfortunately, growing up- and still - in NJ, watching the news report EVERY night all the bad and unpleasant stories gave ( & still gives ) me a very bad opinion of NYC.
There ARE positives that everyone SHOULD visit and experience.
Just ... Be Careful !

I'm Oklahoma born & raised. Never heard many good things about New York City. Heard lots of good things about more rural areas of New York State. I'm sure the City has many good things to offer & share. People I've heard from with negative opinions are just narrow minded & misinformed.

New York has turned into a cesspool, a laughing stock that is the embarrassment of America.

I've been a Graphic Designer&Professor of Visual Communications for over 25 years. And Mr. Glaser has always been on of my favorite Designers for admiration and respect. His designs were all down by hand before the computer was used for graphics. He was one of the leading founders of conceptual design. Milton Glaser, a graphic designer who changed the vocabulary of American visual culture in the 1960s and '70s with his brightly colored, extroverted posters, magazines, book covers and record sleeves, notably his 1967 poster of Bob Dylan with psychedelic hair and his “I ♥ NY” logo, died on Friday, his 91st birthday.

I'm with you. New York was all I'd ever dreamed it would be. Quaint neighborhoods with their own cultures, museums, food, The Statue of Liberty, Times Square and BROADWAY!!! I went three times in the eighties always in winter. The city under a blanket of snow is wonderful.

SneakyHarvester95410,

I love visiting NYC. I have found the people to be friendly. If you're nice to people, most of the time they are nice to you. The traditional visitors' sites are amazing, but I love just wandering around. Don't stay in the Times Square (or other touristy) areas. I like Greenwich Village/Washington Square area.
