Texas is a great state. There are so many good things: no state income tax, beaches, lakes, forests for camping, large cities with pro sports and theaters and museums, NASA, ranches and rodeo, good cost of living, good warm weather. It's not perfect, but it is a really good place to live with very friendly people.

Texas wasn't annexed. We came in by treaty which is why we are the only state that can succeed from the Union.

Player #47120678, Yes, indeed. We lived in San Antonio some years ago and just had the opportunity to return for a 2 week visit. So much has changed. It’s the 7th largest city in the US currently. So much, though, has not changed, or if it has changed, it’s changed for the better. The Alamo, the Riverwalk, the Japanese Sunken Gardens, Brackenridge Park, are even more beautiful then we remember. The Mission Trail is now a UNESCO site and is managed (so very well) by the National Park Service. It was good to visit New Braunfels and the Hill Country again. Tragically, the shootings in Uvalde occurred which was certainly heartbreaking. We lived on Natalen Street, off of Broadway, near Fort Sam. The Vietnamese restaurant that we used to frequent is still on the corner of Natalen and Broadway. All of the overpasses were a bit overwhelming but, in such a large city, they facilitate the efficient movement of traffic. Great city, San Antonio. It’s multicultural with Tejanos, Germans, Czech, Mexican heritage and many others. ¡Felicidades, San Antonio!

Texas has a clause that it can secede from the rest of the States if so decided by the state government and the people. I live in Houston.

Texas was the most western state to allow slavery, they even gave up territory to Oklahoma to continue slavery. also the last state to abolish slavery when a former slave himself purchased slaves. Texas is no saint.
