when my Mom and I went to Hawaii in the 70s, we saw the huge pineapple fields. It's sad that those no longer exist. It was a wonderful trip.

charlesfskane, that is what I was thinking. That is not the story they have at the museum on Maui.

If they are gold colored and smell good, they were picked ripe and shipped by jet. If they are green and odorless, they were picked green and shipped by boat (and will be yucky).

I'm from Hawaii, the tourist would always ask the locals about pineapples, and if they grew on "trees"? 😳😄 They would trip out when they find out not so, and actually see how pineapples really grew! ☺👍

I knew a close relative of Mr. Dole. Now I wish I would have inquired more about him.

I lived on Oahu in the early 70's. A trip to the North Shore through the pineapple fields, with a stop off for the best pineapple ever, was always one of my favorite things to do.
