What is a Cicada?

noisy little things when your on holiday they're everywhere in the trees

They come out of the ground once every 17 years – then make up for lost time with the noise. I’m surprised they didn’t mention that. Unfortunately, my tinnitus sounds pretty much exactly like cicadas.
